The Art of Living

Dandelion in the Great Smoky Mountains

Today’s Postcard is inspired by two women I greatly admire. They both recently posted some wonderful thoughts on how they live their lives that resonated with me. They reminded me of something I often say that I feel I’ve lost sight of lately… that there’s an art to living.

The important thing to remember is that art is subjective. And that includes the art of living.

We often romanticize other people’s lives because we see such a small fragment of the reality. The truth is that even for those of us who are (or at least seem to be…) living amazing lives, living your life on your own terms isn’t easy. There are always challenges to charting your course and criticisms to deal with. It requires focus and dedication to stick to your guns and be true to yourself in the midst of opposing forces. And, quite honestly, we often find ourselves on paths we never imagined but we move with the changes and weave it into our personal fabric.

The take-away here is that life is not one-size-fits-all and it takes a bit of work to figure out what does fit, and what doesn’t.

So today I leave you with two thoughts…

The art of living is more like wrestling than dancing. ~Marcus Aurelius

It takes half your life before you discover life is a do-it-yourself project. ~Napoleon Hill
