Postcards from Real Life: Busy

When you fail to capture your vision of people being busy, you have to share the cliche’ of busy-ness instead.

Ah, the symbol of “busy-ness”—the bee!

This week I’m in Albuquerque for the AFTACON and CreativeCon conferences on behalf of our Southwest Art Towns project.

Knowing I’d be here, it seemed like it would be the ideal opportunity to capture this week’s “busy” theme in all the hubbub that goes with conferences like this. And it was.

Except I was too busy taking part in the conferences myself to accomplish that task. The layers of irony about being too busy to capture an image of being busy are extra rich, aren’t they?

Basically, I failed. So instead of some artistic composition of we humans being “business busy”, here’s a bee (Bombus sonorus) busy at work. Yes, I’m going full cliche’ on this one.

It’s all good though. June is National Pollinator Month so maybe my failure is simply a great opportunity to highlight the importance of pollinators and the preserving the ecosystems they need to survive.

Of course, pollinators come in all shapes and sizes—bees, flies, butterflies, moths, birds, bats, and many others.

This particular pollinator was working its magic at the Silva Creek Botanical Garden—a marvelous little native plant and pollinator haven in my little town.

Back into the conference fray for me. Maybe I should don a bee costume. I wonder if my fellow participants would get the joke.

Cheers, friends!
