If you’ve followed along for a while, you know one of my favorite places in the world is Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado. In fact, I have an entire tattoo sleeve dedicated to this place.

When you have the opportunity to revisit special places, you get to go deeper and discover nuances. This old tree is one of those nuances I’ve explored in-depth.

From the road, this tree doesn’t capture much attention. The vast majority of folks simply drive by, mesmerized by the dunes in the distance. I’ve always found it captivating, though. The rugged textures and angles in contrast to the soft, flowing dunes in the background is poetic to me.

It took a shit ton of time over multiple trips to finally capture this tree bathed in the soul-stirring glow that happens in San Luis Valley during an epic sunset. And now when I reach into the memory banks and think of my time at Great Sand Dunes, this is my personal iconic memory of this extraordinary landscape.

And yes, this tree is included in my sleeve.

Until next time, friends. May you find the glow in your special places.
