Postcards from Real Life: Stone

Postcards from Real Life: Stone

The cliff dwellings of the west spur the imagination. Trying to fathom what it must have taken to build these stone walls in a high cliff face without the benefit of our modern tools is just the start.

I have no idea how many cliff dwellings there are out here. But I happen to live a stone’s throw (pun totally intended), from Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument.

The Mogollon people built their home here in the late 1200s and only used it for a couple of generations. Unfortunately we don’t really know a lot about them. And we probably never will. If only this walls could talk.

While I typically share straight-up photography in these little vignettes, this image is digital artwork I created from a two-shot panorama. Two shots probably doesn’t seem like a “panorama” in the most traditional sense but it was the only way I could get the composition I wanted. You know, without falling down the sheer cliff face a few inches to my left.

Cheers, friends!
