Today finds us nestled at Skidaway Island State Park along the Georgia coast outside of Savannah. We’re here for our second go at the pirate-themed Going Coastal geocaching megaevent.
I’m not a beach person by any means. Even having grown up in South Florida, I’m much more at home splashing through the Smoky Mountain’s streams or tromping through Colorado’s aspens. I don’t dislike the coast mind you, but the mountains simply draw me in more readily than beaches and coastal marshes.
But exploring an area that’s outside of your normal inclination is always good. You never know what you’ll discover and what renewed appreciation you’ll have afterwards for your usual haunts.
Regardless of the details of my surroundings, I’m outside and that’s where good things happen. For the next week-ish I will be embracing the sensations of sand, surf, and marsh instead of streams, peaks, and boulders. So I leave you with this…
I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order. ~John Burroughs
